Bursa Malaysia Berhad launched the ‘Anti-Scam Squad’ initiative to empower young Malaysians and educate communities on tackling the rising threat of investment fraud.

The initiative was unveiled in conjunction with the opening of the Bursa Marketplace Fair 2025 at Mayang Mall, Kuala Terengganu and forms part of Bursa Smart Moves, the exchange’s ongoing programme aimed at promoting financial literacy and combating financial scams through education and community outreach.

The launch was officiated by Director of the Terengganu Land and Mines Office, Datuk Tun Ahmad Faisal Tun Abdul Razak; Bursa Malaysia’s Director of Group Commercial & Market Coverage, Stephanie Tan Kar Mun; Acting Director of Islamic Capital Market, Noorsuriani Muhamed; and Dr. Nor Mazlina Abu Bakar, representing Associate Professor Dr. Syamsul Azri Abdul Rahman, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Alumni at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin’s (UniSZA) Faculty of Business and Management.

According to Bursa Malaysia, the Anti-Scam Squad initiative underscores the importance of collective community action in addressing the growing trend of investment scams, while promoting vigilance and informed decision-making among investors.

“Financial education plays a crucial role in protecting oneself from scams. Through empowerment initiatives such as the ‘Anti-Scam Squad’, individuals can make better financial decisions and reduce the risk of falling victim to fraudulent schemes,” said Stephanie Tan.

As part of the initiative, 100 UniSZA students will be trained as financial education ambassadors, equipped with knowledge in financial literacy, scam identification, and prevention tips to help raise awareness within their communities.

Following the training, the students will spearhead community outreach programmes aimed at educating 1,000 individuals, including senior citizens, retirees and new investors.

These outreach activities will include face-to-face educational sessions, distribution of brochures and infographics, and digital awareness campaigns through social media and online platforms.

The first phase of the outreach campaign is scheduled to run from December 2025 to February 2026.

Bursa Malaysia said the Anti-Scam Squad reflects its continued commitment to building sustainable partnerships with local institutions while empowering young people to become agents of change in promoting financial education and investment safety across communities.
