The Ministry of Education (MOE) has issued new guidelines for school management meetings ahead of the 2026 academic session, emphasising brevity and effective planning to ensure teachers are able to fully enjoy the year-end school holidays.
Director-General of Education, Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad said the management meeting to prepare for the reopening of schools in 2026 must be conducted over a single day only, with discussions held concurrently across key areas including administration, curriculum, student affairs and co-curricular activities.
He explained that the streamlined approach is aimed at preventing teachers from being required to attend school over several days solely for meetings, while also allowing them sufficient time to rest and recharge physically, emotionally and psychologically after completing the 2025 school year.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of educators, so they can make full use of the year-end break for family time, social visits and holidays,” he said in a statement posted on Facebook.
For implementation purposes, the MOE has set specific dates for the meetings based on state groupings. Schools in Group A states are required to hold their management meetings between Jan 6 and Jan 8, 2026, while those in Group B states are scheduled to do so between Jan 7 and Jan 9, 2026.
The ministry also noted that school management teams have other critical tasks to complete in preparation for the new academic year. As such, schools are advised to carefully organise these activities within the stipulated timeframe and to prioritise the use of online platforms for information dissemination whenever appropriate.
In the same statement, Dr Mohd Azam expressed his appreciation to all teachers nationwide for their dedication and unwavering commitment in guiding and educating students throughout 2025.
He expressed hope that educators will return to their duties in 2026 with renewed motivation and a strong sense of responsibility in continuing to drive the nation’s educational development.
