The 3Rs reflects Taylor’s Schools’ commitment to look beyond instilling mere skill sets in students, but also fostering competent mindsets. In response to the fast-paced evolution of industries, technologies, and societal needs, Taylor’s Schools has embraced this forward-thinking approach aimed at preparing students for the dynamic demands of a digital age.

The panelists highlighted the importance of fostering relevance, responsibility, and resilience in learners to equip them for future challenges

Redefining the 3Rs of education
The introduction of Taylor’s Schools’ 3Rs marks a major shift in the traditional approach to education. Historically, the 3Rs referred to reading, writing and arithmetic, a set of skills that were foundational during the Industrial Revolution. However, in today’s digital age, Taylor’s Schools has redefined these 3Rs to focus on preparing students for a world that is increasingly driven by technology, innovation, and social responsibility.

Adjunct Professor BK Gan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Taylor’s Schools, explained the reasoning behind the 3R philosophy, saying “Education today goes beyond academic success. It is about equipping our students with the skills and mindsets to thrive in an unpredictable world. Relevant, Responsible and Resilient foster the capabilities needed to navigate a hyperconnected yet fragmented world, take ownership of one’s actions, see projects through, and develop resilience required to face life’s challenges.”

Breaking down the 3Rs:

RELEVANT
At Taylor’s Schools, relevance means adapting to the digital revolution by equipping students with both academic excellence and practical skills for a future filled with possibilities. While academic knowledge remains crucial, the ability to be digitally agile – understanding and utilising the technology available – is essential. Above all, fostering an entrepreneurial mindset is key: students are encouraged to identify issues, develop innovative solutions, and see their ideas through to completion. Through a curriculum that integrates micro-credentialing alongside core academics, Taylor’s Schools promotes competencies in digital literacy, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence and robotics. This approach ensures that students are adaptable, resourceful and prepared for the challenges of future careers.

RESPONSIBILITY
Responsibility at Taylor’s Schools extends beyond academics and involves nurturing students’ empathy, self-care and accountability; qualities essential for engaging meaningfully within their communities and on a global scale.

“Responsibility is about teaching students to care for themselves and others and to take ownership of their role in shaping a better world. This ethos is also reflected in many of our programmes, such as our Care:Mvmt which aligns with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, emphasising students’ duty towards a sustainable future,” said Adjunct Professor BK Gan.

RESILIENT
In today’s unpredictable world, resilience is crucial. Taylor’s Schools is committed to fostering emotional resilience by providing a safe environment where students can view challenges as growth opportunities. Taylor’s Schools ensure that they have the Facilities and support systems in place to encourage students to push beyond their limits and develop the mental strength to persist through setbacks. The 3Rs framework thus prepares students to embrace adversity and adapt in the face of change.

A broader vision for education
The launch of Taylor’s Schools’ 3Rs comes as the world faces challenges such as the recent pandemic, environmental crises and rapid technological advancements. “The world is changing faster than we can imagine, and education must serve as a foundation of hope and empowerment for the future. We are preparing and developing students beyond exams, but for life itself,” Adjunct ProfessorBK Gan elaborated.
