Established in 2006, the Faculty of Art and Design (FAD) at Southern University College has evolved from a small department with three students into the largest art and design college in southern Malaysia. Now home to about 350 students, FAD offers four diploma programmes and two undergraduate degrees in Industrial Design, Advertising Design, Multimedia Design and Visual Communication Design.
FAD emphasises global exploration, knowledge application, creative problem-solving and portfolio development. The faculty’s distinguished lecturers, with expertise from esteemed institutions in Malaysia, the UK, Japan, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand, contribute to its vibrant academic environment.

The FAD has received numerous awards in national and international competitions, including:
- 11 Grand Prizes at the Times Young Creative Awards (China) 2024.
- Gold Medal at the Asia-Pacific Children and Youth Talent Association (Hong Kong) 2024.
- Platinum Award, 5 Gold Awards and Best Visual Award at the International Innovation ARSVOT Malaysia 2024.
- Special Mention Award and Top Ten Finalists at the MIFF Furniture Design Competition 2024.
- Founder’s Award and Outstanding Award at the Mr. DIY Art Competition 2024.
Industry and Academic Collaboration: FAD is committed to strong partnerships with cultural institutions, design industries and creative agencies. It is the first overseas institution to collaborate with the Times Young Creative Awards (China) and has established significant global academic connections. Notably, FAD signed a Progression Agreement with the University for the Creative Arts (UK), facilitating credit transfers and scholarship opportunities for students.
Global Exposure: The faculty engages in international collaborations and events, such as the Style Bangkok Fair and the Thailand Creative Design Centre. Its participation in global competitions and annual visits to major organisations like IKEA enriches its students’ global perspectives and design insights.
Community Engagement: FAD is active in community engagement, offering workshops and public exhibitions. It recently supported the Benih Karya Art Festival, enhancing local cultural activities and providing students with opportunities to interact with audiences.
