The 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination has recorded its best National Average Grade (GPK) performance in five years, signalling a steady improvement in students’ academic achievements.

Director-General of Education, Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad, said the GPK for 2025 stood at 4.42, an improvement of 0.07 points compared to 4.49 recorded in 2024.

He noted that the stronger performance reflects a positive trend in student outcomes, particularly under the Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Menengah (KSSM), which has been fully implemented in the SPM examination since 2021.

“A total of 13,779 candidates, representing 3.55 per cent, obtained excellent results with grades A+, A and A- in all subjects,” he said during a press conference held in conjunction with the announcement of the SPM 2025 results at the Ministry of Education today.

Mohd Azam added that 376 candidates achieved straight A+ grades across all subjects, marking an increase compared to the previous year.

He also highlighted an encouraging rise in the number of candidates obtaining at least a credit (Grade C) in all subjects, with 92,347 candidates achieving the benchmark in 2025, up from 86,040 candidates in 2024.

Overall, he said the performance of SPM 2025 candidates, based on the GPK index, has shown consistent improvement since the adoption of KSSM.

For the record, the 2025 SPM cohort is the first group of students who did not sit for the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 (PT3).
