In celebration of World Play Day, the Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE) at Taylor’s College and SPICES (acronym for Support for Parents, Infants, and Children through Early Services), a non-governmental organisation, organised an event for children ages 2-12 years old at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus on 31 May 2025. With over 20 stations planned out for the children, the event garnered attendance from more than 170 children from over 50 families, coming from all over Klang Valley area to experience play which develops various skills, such as fine motor skill development, sensory exploration, literacy and numeracy, as well as creativity and problem-solving.

Laughter and excitement filled the air as 150 children from over 50 families across Klang Valley came together at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus to learn through play in celebration of World Play Day, organised by Taylor’s College Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE) students and SPICES

The objectives of the event are as follows:

  1. To champion sustainability and promote inclusive play in collaboration with SPICES, an NGO dedicated to providing intervention services and inclusive play opportunities for children with special needs.
Mimicking the tradition of dumpling-making during Zhong Zhi Festival, a child creates her own ‘dumpling’ using various everyday objects, blending cultural appreciation with imaginative play
  1. To provide DECE students with hands-on experience in facilitating inclusive activities by:
  • Planning and designing engaging, inclusive play activities suitable for children of diverse abilities.
At the Sociodramatic Play Area, where children can role-play various real-life scenarios, one child takes on the role of a pizza chef. Using paper materials to ‘cook up’ her very own pizza, it encourages the use of expressive language skills, and the development of vocabulary through the use of contextual words to make and understand meaning
  • Creating sustainable materials and resources for each activity station.
With guidance from a DECE student, a child brings his imagination to life using cut-out shapes and natural materials, nurturing creativity and sensory exploration through open-ended collage-making
A Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE) student helping a child to wear a firefighter uniform at the Sociodramatic Play Area, where children can role-play various real-life scenarios – as customers, chefs, fire officers or police officers. This station helps to stimulate cognitive skills through imagination, problem-solving, and understanding of social roles and community settings
  • Setting up and managing designated activity stations to ensure a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for all.
