The much sought after International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for those who plan to study abroad, migrate or work overseas, can now be taken at a new IELTS on Computer (IoC) flagship test centre opened at British Council Kuala Lumpur on 24th August 2022 during the IELTS Day 2022.
Attended by British Council partners, stakeholders, test takers and the public, the launch featured a visit to the new IoC centre to experience an IoC familiarisation test. Attendees were given the opportunity to feel the thrill of the real test and get results on their Listening and Reading sections for free. They were also invited to join workshops on the 4 skills tested by IELTS: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, with many effective test-taking tips and techniques, in addition to learning more about the British Council’s many preparation resources.
The flagship IoC centre offers convenient choices for test takers since it is open up to six (6) days a week and has the capacity to accommodate up to 500 test takers weekly. Test takers can get fast results within three to five days after the test date when they take IoC which is now the most popular mode of IELTS testing. The high number of IoC test venues nationwide reflects the fact that up to 78% of Malaysians take IoC as of July 2022. This preference is phenomenal and makes Malaysia one of the top 3 countries for IELTS on Computer preference in the entire East Asia region.
“We provide convenience to our test takers so that they do not have to travel far to take their IELTS test, and they can save time to use for better preparation and get a better score. IoC test centres are available in 10 major cities and towns nationwide and IELTS on Paper (IoP) is available at 6 major cities in Malaysia“ says Steve Adams, East Asia Exams Director of the British Council.
“The IoC test centre in British Council Kuala Lumpur has modern facilities and state-of-the-art audio equipment that will help test takers take the test with confidence and in comfort. British Council is also currently providing free access to ‘Road to IELTS’, our online self-study preparation resource for IELTS test takers, with 100 exercises, 9 tutorial videos, webinars and 2 practice tests for each of the 4 skills – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking” says Jazreel Goh, Director Malaysia of British Council.
Test takers pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any chosen discipline at a higher education institution can also enter the annual British Council IELTS Prize competition. And win scholarships worth MYR 45,000 in total. Another scholarship offered by the British Council is the UK government’s GREAT scholarship worth £10,000. It is open to students who are pursuing a one-year postgraduate course from any UK university.
