In line with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), through its corporate academy ILSAS, is spearheading the TNB TVET Transformation Program 1.0, a flagship initiative to strengthen and future-proof the nation’s technical and vocational education ecosystem.
The program, signed in October 2023 under a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with the Government, focuses on three key priorities:
- Developing industry-relevant TVET modules
- Upskilling trainers through structured support and coaching
- Enhancing infrastructure and equipment at TVET institutions
Reimagining Training for a Decarbonized Future
“The energy world is changing rapidly, more digital, more decarbonized, more decentralized. At TNB ILSAS, we see this shift as an opportunity to prepare our people not just for today’s challenges, but for tomorrow’s opportunities,” said En. Zulkifli Bin Salahudin, Managing Director of TNB ILSAS.
To meet this challenge, ILSAS is embedding next-generation learning. Its programs now emphasize renewable energy, hydrogen, carbon management, nuclear, smart grids, and digital capabilities such as AI and data analytics, strengthened through global partnerships with universities, technology leaders, and industry experts.
Key Milestones
- Nine (9) new modules in development, including Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage (BESS), Drone PV, and 11kV Electrical Systems.
- More than 300 trainers upskilled through workshops and exposure sessions, multiplying knowledge across TVET institutions nationwide.
- All participating institutions assessed for infrastructure readiness, ensuring alignment with industry standards.
Impact on Students and Industry
The program is already delivering results. Post-training assessments recorded 94% competency achievement among trainers, with more than 90% readiness to adopt new modules. For students, this means higher quality instruction, industry-aligned curricula, and stronger employability in fields such as renewable energy, smart grids, and sustainability.

Beyond Training: A National Role
More than just a corporate academy, ILSAS is a national asset for talent development, bridging industry and academia, piloting innovative models such as micro-credentials and work-integrated learning, and helping shape Malaysia’s TVET policies.
Global Recognition, Local Commitment
With over four decades of excellence, ILSAS has received recognition both locally and internationally, including Malaysia’s Best TVET Institution (Sustainability) and the Energy Institute (UK) Award for Talent Development & Learning.
“As Malaysia embraces renewable energy and smart grids, the real power behind this transition will be our people,” concluded En. Zulkifli. “Technology drives change, but people drive transformation and that is the promise of ILSAS.”

With completion targeted for December 2025, the TNB TVET Transformation Program 1.0 is shaping future-ready graduates while reinforcing Malaysia’s role in the global energy transition.
