The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) Malaysia’s Celebrating Excellence 2024 brought together members, Authorised Training Providers (ATEs), and Partners-in-Learning (PiLs) to honour top Malaysian students who achieved outstanding marks in the ICAEW examinations, as well as celebrate students who have completed externally moderated degrees at Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and Multimedia University, alongside top students from other educational institutions with exceptional accomplishments.
The annual ICAEW Malaysia Celebrating Excellence event recognises the top ICAEW students in Malaysia who have excelled in their examinations, encouraging them to strive for excellence and become future chartered accountants who will contribute to building strong and sustainable economies.
Prominent ICAEW senior members, including renowned business leaders and influential personalities, reaffirmed their commitment to fostering excellence in the profession through the ICAEW Members’ Society Malaysian Chapter. Patrons of a trust dedicated to developing leaders equipped with the prestigious ICAEW ACA qualification contributed the Advanced and Professional Level Malaysian Prizes at the ICAEW Malaysia Celebrating Excellence event.
This year, six ICAEW Malaysia Prizes for the Advanced Level exams were awarded to students currently employed at ICAEW’s authorised training employers including PwC, KPMG, and Deloitte. These students were honoured with certificates, prizes, and 24k gold-plated medals under the patronage of renowned Fellow Chartered Accountants Tan Sri Dato’ Hanafiah Hussain, Datuk Ali Abdul Kadir, and the late Tan Sri Azlan Zainol. Additionally, 26 ICAEW Professional Level Prizes and 24k gold-plated medals were awarded by Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Wahid Omar, Dato’ Narendra Jasani, Dato’ Mohd. Faiz Azmi, Dato’ Gan Ah Tee, Mr. Bingley Sim, and Mr. Foo San Kan from the ICAEW Members’ Society Malaysian Chapter.
According to the ICAEW Members’ Society Malaysian Chapter, recognising students’ achievements through awards and prizes is essential for celebrating their success and boosting their confidence. This recognition reinforces the values of dedication and perseverance.
The support and contributions of patrons and senior ICAEW members also reflect their dedication to the profession and their belief in the potential of the younger generation. By supporting and inspiring students, ICAEW plays a key role in strengthening the accounting profession in Malaysia and fostering the development of skilled professionals poised to drive industry innovation and growth. Additionally, the trust encourages lifelong learning, with the inspirational examples set by patrons serving as motivation for current and future students to achieve similar levels of success.
Shenola Gonzales, Head of ICAEW Malaysia, stated, “I believe this trust embodies sustainability—not in the traditional ESG sense, but in sustaining this noble profession. It represents our Malaysian Chapter giving back to future members. This is the essence of ICAEW and what sets us apart because the ICAEW training not only shapes you into an exemplary finance and business professional but also instills values that surface when needed. A famous Aristotle saying comes to mind; ‘We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit’. By striving for the ICAEW qualification, the pursuit of excellence becomes a habit!”
“The strong partnership between ICAEW and our ATEs also ensures our students receive both comprehensive education and practical experience, preparing them to become leaders in the profession,” Gonzales added. “ICAEW membership is a mark of excellence, representing a commitment to uphold the highest ethical and professional standards. Our members benefit from a global network of professionals, continuous professional development opportunities, and the chance to work across regions, gaining invaluable international experience. This interconnected community supports and inspires each member to reach their full potential.”
ICAEW Malaysia remains dedicated to supporting the government’s initiative to grow the number of professional accountants in Malaysia to 60,000 by 2030. By fostering excellence and supporting students, ICAEW hopes to contribute to the development of highly skilled professionals who will make significant contributions to the business and finance community and lead in building a world of strong and sustainable economies.
