Automotive Technology Centre (ATeC) is located at Polytechnic Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin (PSMZA), Dungun, Terengganu. It is a Centre of Technology (CoT) that was established in September 2015 in conjunction with the Mechanical Engineering (Automotive) Diploma Program in the Mechanical Engineering Department. ATeC is a TVET training and reference centre in the field of automotive engineering with the concept of sharing and transferring knowledge and expertise through active and strategic collaboration with industry, the public community and related institutions.
In 2021, ATeC became the 12th CoT of Polytechnic Malaysia and was awarded a Recognition Certificate of 2 Star Rating CoT by Jabatan Pendidikan Politeknik dan Kolej Komuniti after being assessed by the CoT External Assessment Panel. Now, ATeC is leading in the field of Automotive Engineering, Hybrid & Electric Vehicle (HEV) Technology, Electro Mechanical Rotating Machine Maintenance, Alternative Fuel Production and Testing, and Vehicle and Road Safety.
On 15th August 2024, ATeC was recognised as the Best Polytechnic (Automotive) by the Malaysia Education and TVET Awards 2024. This award marks the first time ATeC has received such recognition, successfully showcasing ATeC’s efforts to assist the country in spreading TVET skills in the field of automotive technology.
ATeC is taking steps by creating an Automotive Reskilling And Upskilling Centre (RUC) to offer training courses in the automotive field, especially hybrids and electric vehicles. The Automotive RUC was inaugurated by Datuk Ts. Mustapha bin Sakmud, Deputy Minister of Higher Education on 23 September 2024.
With the expertise possessed by the ATeC staff, a number of expert services are offered to customers such as vehicle servicing, balancing and alignment, engine diagnosis, vehicle air conditioning servicing and flushing, radiator flushing and vehicle spare parts exchange.
ATeC is also actively conducting research and innovation. In 2024, ATeC successfully developed an electric mini car named MyEV PSMZA as a result of research and innovation by lecturers and students. Most recently, ATeC staff successfully obtained a TVET-Applied Research Grant Scheme, a research grant from the Ministry of Higher Education worth RM79,500 to carry out research on biodiesel.
ATeC offers a Professional Diploma Programme in Electro Mechanical Rotating Machine in collaboration with Elektro Serve (M) Sdn Bhd. A total of 20 participants of the first group consisting of industry workers and PSMZA students have successfully completed the course which was conducted within a period of 6 months in 2023.
In addition, ATeC also offers short training courses, such as basic vehicle service courses, wheel balancing and alignment courses, vehicle air conditioner service courses, engine diagnosis courses, and most recently, hybrid and electric vehicle technology courses in collaboration with Mili Tech Sdn Bhd.

ATeC and PSMZA aims to become a recognised Industrial Education Centre (IEC) by 2027. It is dedicated to continuing efforts to advance the country’s TVET education through strategic partnerships with renowned industries, small-medium industries and as well as any TVET providers.
